Sara & Matt : Baby and Family
This is the second time I have had Sara and baby Z. in the studio and Matt’s first. The first time was while Matt was deployed and THANKFULLY he returned home safe and sound. It just amazes me how much these families sacrifice for our freedom. When baby Z. was born, Matt got to come home on leave and then had to go back a week later. I can’t imagine how tough that would be to see your child born and then the next time you see them, they are already months old. So, the next time you see one of our service member, be sure to thank them!

Miss me?
I can’t believe it has been a month since my last post! I have been busy busy busy so of course I am way behind on blogging… again. I feel like I am continually trying to catch up here…lol I will try to get some of this and some of that up in the next couple days. I will also be showing off my senior reps! If there are any juniors out there that want to apply to be a rep for me, I am still accepting at a few schools. Drop me an email or text me if you are interested!
Have a great weekend!
Memorial Day
In 1865, Henry C. Welles, a druggist in the village of Waterloo, NY, mentioned at a social gathering that honor should be shown to the patriotic dead of the Civil War by decorating their graves.
In the Spring of 1866, he again mentioned this subject to General John B. Murray, Seneca County Clerk. General Murray embraced the idea and a committee was formulated to plan a day devoted to honoring the dead.
Townspeople adopted the idea wholeheartedly. Wreaths, crosses and bouquets were made for each veteran’s grave. The village was decorated with flags at half mast and draped with evergreen boughs and mourning black streamers.
On May 5, 1866, civic societies joined the procession to the three existing cemeteries and were led by veterans marching to martial music. At each cemetery there were impressive and lengthy services including speeches by General Murray and a local clergyman. The ceremonies were repeated on May 5, 1867.
The first official recognition of Memorial Day as such was issued by General John A. Logan, first commander of the Grand Army of the Republic. This was General Order No. 11 establishing “Decoration Day” as it was then known. The date of the order was May 5, 1868, exactly two years after Waterloo’s first observance. That year Waterloo joined other communities in the nation by having their ceremony on May 30.
In 1965, a committee of community leaders started plans for the Centennial Celebration of Memorial Day. The committee consisted of VFW Commander James McCann, chairman, American Legion Commander Oliver J. McFall and Mayor Marion DeCicca, co-chairman, along with Village Trustees, M. Lewis Somerville, Roscoe Bartran, Richard Schreck, Tony DiPronio, and VFW Vice-Commander, Kenneth Matoon. Their goals were: “to obtain national recognition of the fact that Waterloo is the birthplace of Memorial Day through Congressional action” and “to plan and execute a proper celebration for such centennial observance.”
In May of 1966, just in time for the Centennial, Waterloo was recognized as the “Birthplace of Memorial Day” by the United States Government. This recognition was long in coming and involved hours of painstaking research to prove the claim. While other communities may claim earlier observances of honoring the Civil War dead, none can claim to have been so well planned and complete, nor can they claim the continuity of observances that Waterloo can.
The Centennial Celebration that year brought dignitaries from government, military, veteran’s organizations and descendants of the original founders of Memorial Day. A once luxurious home on Waterloo’s Main Street, built in 1850, was purchased from the county and restored. Now the Memorial Day Museum, it houses artifacts of the first Memorial Day and the Civil War era.
Memorial Day is commemorated each year in Waterloo. The parade, speeches, and solemn observances keep the meaning of Memorial Day as it was originally intended to be.
A letter to my best friend…
I met you in August of 1993. I never dreamed back then that we would end up where we are today….but I always hoped we would….
When we met, there was an instant connection between us. A bond formed that wasn’t easily broken even through it was tested over and over again and our bond has been reinforced throughout the years.
In May of 1998, that bond became fused and in December of 2003 it became unbreakable.
There have been many road blocks in our relationship and I am sure there are many more to come, because we have never taken the easy straight road, always the winding one.
Life truly has become one big adventure and I would never change a thing..good or bad because those are the things that have made us who we are today.
Who you ask is my friend that I am writing too?
This person has many titles to me…
my cheerleader,
my partner in crime,
my confidant,
my combatant,
my secruity blanket,
my friend,
my decision maker,
my defender,
my love,
my life,
my soul mate,
my husband.
Thank you for being you and giving me the best 16 years of my life……..so far.
Happy Anniversary, I love you.

Spring is in the air!
I woke up this morning to hear the birds singing! I love that sound early in the morning, it just makes me happy.
Especially to know that spring is just around the corner. Ahhhhh, I can’t wait!
We are driving down with my parents to see my aunt in Northfield today. I am ashamed to say that I have never been to her house and they have lived there for quit awhile. It will be a good day for a drive, hopefully the sun will peak out for a little bit.
This little one has so much spunk! I had to ask her parents to step out of the room and once I did, she was just hamming it up. We had so much fun.
She is such a little cutie!

Farewell My Friend…
I love trees and if I could, I would plant one in every square inch of my yard. Well, not every square inch, but you know what I mean.
They are just so beautiful and green and add so much to any landscape.
When we first moved here 9 years ago, I had not one tree because the development that we live in was built on a farm field. Over the years, I keep have added them here and there and now we have 25 trees on our 1+ acre lot.
I now have to subtract one from that count now.
This was one of the first trees that I planted after we moved in. I planted two sugar maples in the backyard and they have grown like weeds. I would say that they are about 30-40 feet tall?? Last year we lost a bigger limb on one in a storm and then again a week ago in a storm. When I was cutting the huge branch up, I noticed that there was at least 2 feet of new growth on the ends of it. I just had a feeling that by the end of the summer I was going to lose the whole thing because it is growing to fast to support the huge branches it has.
Well, when the storms came through last night, the very first gust of wind snapped the top off right off. My first tree casualty. I am so sad because I finally had a nice shady spot to sit and play in the sandbox or even swing with Katie. But the tree is broken now and has lost to many limbs making big fractures in the main trunk to be able to support what is left and it has to come down today.
Farewell my friend, you will be greatly missed…..
