Miracles do happen..

I look back on some of the stupid things that we did in our 20′s and realize how dumb we were. You just never realize how fragile your life really is and sometimes it takes a big slap in the face to realize that. My family is very large, my dad is the youngest of 8 and I am on the bottom of the grandchildren totem pole that includes over 35. Through the years, we have been so blessed to not have had to face many tragedies. I lost a very very close cousin when I was 15. He was only 26 and the whole family was devastated. We lost another cousin in Washington a few years back. On August 21st, tragedy struck again.

Justin was in the back of a truck that was whipping doughnuts in the parking lot at JJ’s in North Branch and was thrown from the bed landing on his head. He was airlifted to North Memorial and wasn’t expected to make it. They couldn’t get the swelling in his brain under control. They removed part of his skull to help relieve the pressure to no avail, nothing was working. He was touch and go for a long while. And then all of a sudden, he finally started to stabilize and is now on his way to a very miraculous recovery. He just got his first taste of food a few days ago and is now up and walking with help. Don’t get me wrong, he still has a very long way to go before he leaves the hospital. He has daily physical therapy, along with speech, occupational and life skills therapy and has many tests to pass before he can even think of going home. But that he is even alive and walking and communicating is a true miracle. :)

They are going to be holding a benefit for Justin in November to help cover the multitude of medical bills that he now has and is going to have throughout his recovery. I will post more information when I get it. I do know that it is going to be on November 14th at the VFW in Friendly Fridley. :)

If you want to read more of Justin’s story and recovery, you can visit his caring bridge site Justin Schuur

FINALLY!

If you are here I am sure you have already seen it, but I am FINALLY able to say that my new site is up and running! After almost tossing my laptop off the deck this afternoon, I finally have all the links and pages working as they should. I will be filling up my portfolio with current images over the next week.
I am going to be sending out a few announcements on an upcoming special and a model call soon, so be sure to sign up for my newsletter if you haven’t already.

Off to get more images ready to put up on the site.

Have a good night!

New Site, Last Year of Preschool

What you ask? My new site! I have been working on it for the last few days and it is almost ready. I won’t have everything up on it that I want, but I wanted to get it up and going. I will be adding more information and images over the next few weeks. Hopefully I will have it up by tomorrow afternoon if all goes as planned, so keep your fingers crossed for me. :)

This year is Katie’s second and last year of preschool. She is just growing up way to fast, she is going to pass me up soon..lol Ok, back to work on the site, have a great day!

September 11th

I think for most of us, September 11th is one day that will be one that will forever be in our minds and hearts. It will be one of those memories that we pass on to our children and grandchildren that start out as… “I will never forget, I remember exactly what I was doing when I first heard about what was happening on the east coast on 9/11, I was….”

That day brought our nation as a whole to our knees. No matter if you personally knew someone or not, it affected us all deeply. I was working at a different job at the time and our whole office was rivited to the tv for the whole day in hopes that what we were seeing and hearing was just some elaborate hoax or that the numbers weren’t as high as they were, or did the builing really just collapse into itself? I mean, how could we really be seeing people jump from a 50 story building on national tv? It was just unreal that something like this could happen here in the US. It still gets to me when I think of all of the families that lost loved ones that day and for what? Because we have different beliefs, it just amazes me.

I too shall speak those words many times over my lifetime..I will never forget.

Happy Labor Day!

May you have a very restful fun day before the start of many schools tomorrow. I have one more week until Katie starts her last year of preschool!

Labor Day is a United States Federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September. The holiday originated in 1882 as the Central Labor Union (of New York City) sought to create “a day off for the working citizens”.

Congress made Labor Day a federal holiday in 1894. All fifty states have made Labor Day a state holiday.

Traditionally, Labor Day is celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of the summer.

Labor Day has been celebrated on the first Monday in September in the United States since the 1880s. The form for the celebration of Labor Day was outlined in the first proposal of the holiday—a street parade to exhibit to the public “the strength and esprit de corps of the trade and labor organizations,” followed by a festival for the workers and their families. This became the pattern for Labor Day celebrations. Speeches by prominent men and women were introduced later, as more emphasis was placed upon the economic and civil significance of the holiday. Still later, by a resolution of the American Federation of Labor convention of 1909, the Sunday preceding Labor Day was adopted as Labor Sunday and dedicated to the spiritual and educational aspects of the labor movement

Today, Labor Day is often regarded as a day of rest and compared to the May 1 Labour Day celebrations in most countries; parades, speeches or political demonstrations are more low-key, although events held by labor organizations often feature political themes and appearances by candidates for office, especially in election years. Forms of celebration include picnics, barbecues, fireworks displays, water sports, and public art events. Families with school-age children take it as the last chance to travel before the end of summer. Some teenagers and young adults view it as the last weekend for parties before returning to school. However, as of late, schools have begun well before Labor Day, as early as July 24th in many urban districts, including major southern cities in the United States such as Atlanta, Miami, and Los Angeles. In addition, Labor Day marks the beginning of the season for the National Football League and NCAA College Football. The NCAA usually plays their first games the week before Labor day, with the NFL traditionally playing their first game the Thursday following Labor Day.
